I graduated from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey with a BBA in Business Administration. In September of the same year I enrolled in the Somerset School of Massage Therapy (now known as Cortiva Institute) where I maintained a straight A average.
It was mid-way through my years at Stockton that I discovered I had a talent for massage therapy. I gave a massage to my best friend, who was in her first trimester of her first pregnancy and feeling uncomfortable. The level of relaxation she experienced was so deep, that she fell asleep and had a great night's sleep for the first time in quite a few days. My grandmother told me I had a nice touch when I gave her a back massage. Towards the end of my grandfather's life, stress was causing my grandmother various body aches; the massage helped her body feel better even though her spirits were low. I relieved my mother's lower back pain and cramping with massage. With no training I was able to make people feel better, and it was my friend who told me I needed to fine tune my abilities with professional training.
I truly love my job and helping people, if only to allow them to relax. The benefits of massage are numerous, and I feel a sense of accomplishment when a client leaves my table feeling much better than when they arrived. I consider myself lucky to have figured out what I enjoy doing for a living early in life.
